Lori Sealy Concept
Lori always had an interest in music, creating her own instruments. Raised a “Navy Brat”, she attended many Officer’s parties as the only child in the room. She quickly realized just about every house had a parlor, and in the parlor would be a piano or an organ. Sealy would ask if she could play and the host would always oblige.
Lori she would often get lost in the magic of music. Seeing her love for the instrument, in 1970, her parents bought her a small keyboard, complete with chord buttons, 3 octaves, and 3 music books. At the age of 5, she poured through those books, teaching herself to read music and mastered the instrument quite quickly.
By 1974, she was presented with her first piano and never looked back. After countless hours playing piano for perfect Guild competition awards and receiving a degree in Music Education at Hardin-Simmons University.
After 15 years of playing piano for church and touring in gospel shows, and after 20 years of teaching music and producing shows in elementary schools, and after 8 years playing and singing professionally for varied and specialty events averaging 100 gigs per year, and after learning ukulele, and after mastering various percussion instruments and most recently the washboard, and after discovering a talent for writing songs and tunes in a short time, and after tirelessly promoting her bands and learning the music business and promotion, Lori Sealy finally struck out on her own.
Her washboard Hazel has captured the attention of such bands/singers as Kenny Maines, Betty Smith, James Childress, The States, Texas Cadillac Jack, Groove Prophets, Gary Nix and West!Texas, Texas Down Under, True Blue, Jenni Dale Lord, Tina Turner, Dix Hat Band, Proud Cut Ponies, No Dry County, Curtis Peoples, and many other Lubbock artists
The “concept” has managed to wrangle Kurt Melle, Barry Moffitt, David Polk, Ray Espinoza, Willie Brice, Eddy Weir, Tina Turner, Benton Leachman, Bobby Bewick, Kelly’s Lot to join her and perform. “The Concept” hit the West Coast on May 23rd, 2013 for a Songwriter’s Showcase at Bob’s Espresso Bar, with Noho locals Perry Robertson and Kelly Zirbes, the band “Kelly’s Lot” sitting in.
Lori Sealy currently resides in Lubbock Texas, and plays festivals, open stages, songwriter’s showcases, retirement homes, and private parties.
