When Greg Maldo takes the stage, he captivates his audience with his soulful lyrics and heartfelt emotions that get poured into his music. His old fashioned Honky Tonk sound intertwines with truth and honesty in his writing and results in a performance you wont want to miss.
Greg Maldo, born and raised in Lubbock Texas, started his first band in a small college town where he was a full time student and played baseball. After an injury, his dreams of being a professional baseball player were over, he decided he needed something else to focus his attention on. Not long after that, he put down his bat and picked up a guitar. He formed a college band that mostly played for fun. “We played for beer, we played for food, we played for free any where they would book us.” He recalls the experience as being one of the favorite times in his career.
After graduating college, he moved back to Lubbock and that is when he really developed his passion for music. With influences such as George Strait, Merle Haggard, George Jones and Waylon Jennings, he started writing music. He too injected his life experiences of heartbreaks, drinking, and now the birth of his daughter into his lyrics and started playing them at the local venues. Eventually his bookings stretched from Amarillo to Austin.
“There’s something about playing in little Honky Tonk bars that inspire me. I cant explain it really, but they almost feel like home to me,” Maldo says smirking. With hopes of playing on a national stage in the near future, Maldo continues to spread his music throughout West Texas and will soon be recording his EP Collection, driving his fan base into an International level.
